Art can be a solitary pursuit and while I enjoy silence, I sometimes like to have a little background noise. I listen to music of all kinds, depending upon what I am working on. Sometimes I listen to eBooks or pod casts while I’m working.
Lately, I have been really enjoying Ted Talks and was pleased to find that there are numerous talks given by artists of all kinds. I find these artists inspiring, informative and very entertaining.
I love to hear how they started their art journey and how they create and get their inspiration. A lot of artists have overcome many struggles to gain success and their stories are very motivating.

What is a Ted Talk?
For those of you who don’t know what a Ted Talk is, it is a short (usually less than 20 minutes) talk given by speakers presenting ideas on many different subjects. Talks are given on subjects such as science, technology, the environment, nature, art, politics and almost every subject you can think of.
According to their web site, “TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.”
Whatever your interest is, there is usually a Ted Talk to inform or inspire you.

Inspiring Ted Talks About Art
Below is a list of my most recent favorite talks by artists. I hope you will check them out and enjoy them as much as I did.
Raghava KK: A multi disciplined artist who says he developed his art through many upheavals in his life and reinvented himself five times.
Shea Hembrey: American contemporary artist who spent a year studying the art of the Maori in New Zealand. He talks about his project, Seek, in which he invented 100 artists.
Maira Kalman: Illustrator, writer, artist, designer and a bit of an eccentric. Here is her very enjoyable talk.

Phil Hansen: An artist who developed a tremor in his hand early in his career. He talks about how he used his disability to increase his creativity. My favorite talk, since I can relate to his challenges through my struggle with Parkinson’s. Enjoy his story here.
Miwa Matreyek: Miwa preforms a beautiful, calming manipulation of images.

R. Alan Brooks is a graphic novelist who believes that art can change the world and can positively impact people. His talk is powerful and inspiring.
Christoph Niemann is an illustrator, artist and author. His very witty talk explores how art communicates without words.

I hope you will be informed and inspired by these artist as you create your own work. There are many more available if you get hooked on Ted Talks as I did.
Thanks for reading.
